These are real emails carrying real one-time links, sent the same way a request from the sign-in page is. The link signs the address in.

Which login email arrives is not a choice: the welcome version is sent while the profile is unfinished, and the ordinary one once it is done. Open it on a phone in dark mode as well as light — Gmail on Android rewrites colours and ignores what the email asks for.
